I am in charge of finding performers for YU's comedy competition. The competition will take place on November 18th at 8pm. We want comics who are clean and funny. There will be prizes such as gift certificates to Prime Grill and tickets to sporting events. All proceeds go to Camp HASC (Camp for kids with mental disabilities). Bigger and Better things
Posted on 04/18/2008 at 03:40 AM

Last year Rascals comedy club closed down. This was really bad for me for 2 reasons. One, it was a great room and I really enjoyed the comics there. Two, there is no other club in my general area.

When I did Carolines last year with Make-a-wish I realized that in order to really break into comedy I had to take more of an effort and get outta Jersey.

So when I came back from Israel for this month (Passover break) I called Andy Engel and he put me on the bill for the new talent night at Carolines. I had a pretty good set (used some new jokes that went over decently) but that wasn’t the best part. The emcee of the show was Dean Obidallah. Dean is one of the stars of the “Axis of evil” comedy tour (Middle eastern heritage comics) which is really big in my school (I take credit for that bc it was my DVD) so I was kinda star struck. Also Judah Freidlander from VH1 was there and I got chat with him for a couple minutes, which was really cool.

Last week I did an online tv show with Bob Gonzo which was fun. Check it out at comedymondays.com

I go back to Israel on the 29th but I’m doing comedy on the 28th in carolines again so feel free to come. When I come back im doing Comix NY’s “Trial by laughter” Competition which im really excited for. So looks like I’m really starting to get on to bigger and better things.

comedy in israel
Posted on 01/13/2008 at 07:21 AM

When I left America to study for the year in Israel, I thought I would have to put comedy on hold. I weighed my priorities and thought that the year off was more important then going straight into college and the rest of my life. However, when I got to Israel someone told me about a group of stand-up comics who did minor comedy around the country. They called themselves “Off the wall comedy”. “Off the Wall Comedy” is run by Dave Kliminick, who opened up the first comedy club in Jerusalem about a month after I got to Israel. I called him up and he told me about a comedy competition he runs. So I signed up and ended up winning the competition (the prize was a gift certificate to the club itself…….. go figure).

The club caters mainly to “Anglos” (term for people outside of the middle east) who move to Israel (or as its known in Hebrew “Aliyah” which means “to go up”). The club features open mics in both Hebrew and English. It’s nice to see that in the midst of all the controversy and unrest in this state we can still laugh at ourselves. Hope all is well. ~Eitan Levine P.S. I finally posted the video of me performing in Carolines on this site. Check it out. (if it doesn’t work then check it out on video google)

Israel
Posted on 12/10/2007 at 05:20 AM

A couple days ago I was looking through all my old blogs and came to 2 relizations.

1. I had horrible grammar skills.

2. I wasn't that funny back when I was 15-17.

So I decided to delete all my old blogs and start off fresh.

So far my year in Israel has been amazing. I've been touring the country and learning about my culture. I've been growing spiritually but most importantly I've become a lot more mature.

I've continued doing comedy in Israel and I actually won a student comedy competition (there are upwards of 100 year programs in Israel so thats a lot of students).

I'm also in touch with Andy Engle from Caroline's about getting some stage time when I come back for Passover break on April 2nd.

hope all is well.
